Default RMIT degree advice

I'm thinking of taking up an RMIT degree in sim uni.

Is it well-recognised in Singapore? I think they had a fake degree problem here a few years back, so do most companies/employers hire RMIT grads as compared to other private degrees (UOL, curtin, murdoch etc)?

Also I read somewhere that RMIT students can grad with Distinctions. Is that equivalent to Honours? Any students/RMIT grads out there to advice on this?

Thanks in advance!

dont waste ya money. Better to do a polytechinic cert..get into a company then ask whether they support an SIM degree.

If its accounting..just do ACCA.

Depends which course. Which course are you looking at? NTU LKC medicine grads and NTU ADM grads also come from same school mah. But their employability and salary is sooo different, one is heaven and one is Earth.

I'm thinking of either Business marketing or Professional communications course. Not sure what is the current reputation among employers now, any advice from anybody?

Honours and distinctions are 2 different things. U can't equate them together. Honours make a difference to the degree. Distinctions doesn't really mean much and is usually use for those degrees which are somewhat of lower grade

degree with distinction is Australian universities' way of grading the better performers for their 3-year degree progs. its not easy to get cos you need to get an average of distinctions across all your modules. it's definitely not honours though but it will make you look better than those with pass degrees.

for australian universities, you have to apply to do the 4th year honours. its a brand new application and will be independent of your existing basic degree.

I think business got a good chance in private sector. Business and marketing are huge industries.

Whoa don't think I'm able to get all distinctions. Thanks for the info!

What about government sector? I'm considering working there too. I heard some stat boards recognise private degrees. Not sure about RMIT reputation among them.

Dont think about government sector. Firstly, civil sectors dont hire many biz grads. Proportionally, most biz grads head to the private sector. Ministry almost definitely cannot. Unless you talking about ministries that are in dire need of people like army regular. Stat boards there might be some. I've seen one, but it was contract based, not full-time. You can get contract first then hopefully with good performance they might convert you to full-time. But generally, dont look towards public sector upon graduation. Try and get a job in private sector, its very doable. Get some experience there and pick up some skills then head over to the public sector if you want to a few years down the road.
