You should ask for a pay increment. A project manager is higher in command than engineer, so yes, you should get more pay for the added responsibilities.

If you really need to ask the role and responsibility of project manager for construction company, then you are not ready to become one because construction whether civil or building is a very specialised trade.

Generally as a project manager for main contractor, you are expected to run the construction to ensure it is delivered within a given period and budget. You will have a team of engineers, supervisors, QS, etc to assist you. You need to have sufficient technical and managerial experience to help you make the right decisions along the way.

A project manager for a smaller contractor may be required to do a lot of menial works as you would have less manpower assisting you.

Default advice needed

i am student that have jus graduated from SP Architecture. i am now deciding on which course should i take in nus, architecture or project & facilities management.

The reasons for me to considered doing PM as opposed to archi is that i have heard numerous stories of the lack of work life balance for architects and the salary is not equalivent to the effort put in.

May someone advice me on the the carreer prospect of PM in sg. Is there a balance of work-life? And based on the MOM Wages report, PM average income is around 5k. How true is that?

Any advice is appreciated and i thank u in advance.

Thought you already asked this in another thread? Don't waste people's time lah, make your own decision based on the inputs already given to you.

As publicly known, PM makes $4m annually. He's appointed on merit and through proper process.

Default Project manager's worth

For a PM with 10 years experience handling a project with $50M of direct investment from his company, and has responsibility over decisions with impact of up to $1M to the project, which should be his worth in terms of salary?

Appreciate if knowledgeable forummers here can share.

thanks
