If you really need to ask the role and responsibility of project manager for construction company, then you are not ready to become one because construction whether civil or building is a very specialised trade.

Generally as a project manager for main contractor, you are expected to run the construction to ensure it is delivered within a given period and budget. You will have a team of engineers, supervisors, QS, etc to assist you. You need to have sufficient technical and managerial experience to help you make the right decisions along the way.

A project manager for a smaller contractor may be required to do a lot of menial works as you would have less manpower assisting you.
