Hi,

Has anyone gone for the interview this year(2016)? And for those who went have any of you been contacted by them after the interview? The process this year seems very long.

Hi would like to know more about the st aerospace LAE programme.
How long is the apprentice programme in sasco?
What is the allowance while doing the training? (for Diploma)
What is the basic after getting the license? (for Diploma)

Hi,

I am confused and would like to seek advice from experienced LAE in this forum.
I am currently working in Airbus, being LAE is an achievement for aerospace engineer. Should i resign my current job and pursue as an LAE?

If you want to become an LAE, do take note that you will have to start all over again which means a pay cut, getting dirty and working almost like a technician for the next 4 years before you become a certifying LAE.

I am not sure how you classify being an LAE is an achievement for aerospace engineer. As an LAE, you do not really engage in real engineering feats like analysis, CFD, FEA, design work like CAD and stuffs like that which means you literally can throw away whatever you've learn in your aerospace engineering course.

However, once you are certify to work as an LAE, you'll get to have real hands on work on the airplane itself and have a feel of how is it to be behind the controls in the cockpit, except that you cannot fly the aircraft. Perhaps if that's what you really want, then go for it

Total apprentice programme in ST is 9 years (bond).
Basic theory is 2.5yrs and on-job training abt 2 yrs. After getting license would be another 4 years.
During basic theory, you need to clear both EASA and CAAS exam.
First year allowance is $1.7(fr diploma) and $2.2k (fr degree holder) not including advanced bonus and 13th month bonus. Difference is $500, and once get license basic is $2.4k (diploma) not including bonus, ot and other allowances.

I would recommend you to take degree first before joining LAE programme, you will get higher grade and better pay.

Which airbus company u are working at? if u think become an LAE is your dream, pls, go and take a toothbrush, a rag, and a can of motor oil. Pour the motor oil in your toilet bowl and it surround area. Take your toothbrush and use your bare hands with a brush wash away the oil and clean with rag. Also, pour some oil in your cloth. Do not change your cloth. Do the job at least an hour. Than you certified your work. Make sure the toilet and floor is cleaned and no oil. cant accept the result, repeat again. after that, take a bottle of spray, whatever spray u got. juz spray, stand there for half an hour and check whether u can withstand the smell or not. if u cannot withstand, dont force yourself. if this 2 tasks u cannot make it. pls dont join. There are many sh1t jobs worse than the 2 tasks mentioned above.

Are there >1 airbus group in SG? I'm under Airbus Group - SG.
Actually, all along, before joining Airbus. I had the thought of becoming LAE, considering the sense of accomplishment of certifying aircraft air worthiness. However, the paycut and unhealthy working lifestyle of LAE sets me back.

Currently, i am surrounded by colleagues whom were once LAE in SIAEC, their abundance knowledge on aircrafts pressurized me since i am a fresh grad with not much technical and hands-on knowledge. FYI, they are earning about 10k a month now. All these kept me pondered on my aerospace career.

Hope to get more advice from experienced LAE in this forum.
