You plan to be single all your life? Or will settle down if the right guy comes along?

How rich?

Many people thought they are rich but are actually not. If they have below $3m networth, they are only borderline rich.

Here's why:

1. Start a family with 2 kids. Need at least $250k -$400k to bring up each child till university
2. Stay in a reasonable size condo say 1,300sq ft will set you back $1.5m or more
3. Get a good jap car or continue car will set you back another $150k-$230k
4. Household expenses with maid - $120k-$150k pa
5. Annual holidays for family of 4 - $15k-$20k pa

After all this, not much left for retirement sustenance. Some more at 40s, 50s, there is not much time to earn more.

So toto, don't settle for an old man with less than $3m networth. Minimally should be $5m to give yourself margin of safety for financial security when the old man can no longer work.

I want to clear my study loan first before I think about anything else. I have to waste many years to clear my debts while all my friends can start investing and planning for the future

You can do part time work such as giving tuition to clear your debts. Save as much as possible. Quit bad habits if you have any. Don't smoke, drink or gamble. Don't waste money on partying, buying branded goods or eating at restaurants. Eat at hawker centres.

In the mean time, find a husband who can help you financially. You don't want to grow old and lonely. Life will be more meaningful if you have a loving family with kids and grandkids. You don't want to be alone when you're old and dying.

Thanks for the advice. So it's ok if I do not have any savings for the time being right?

Take home pay 2.7k.
Loans- 1.5k
Parents- 200
Phone bill- 50
Transport- 100
Food- 450
Entertainment (movies etc)- 100
Misc (contact lens etc)- 100

Guess I still have around $200 left. Can I invest with this amount or do you suggest I save it? Also, do you have any comments regarding my expenses? Thanks!

Your expenses looks fine except the contact lens. You may be better off getting a good pair of glasses that saves you money over a long period of time. You should just save whatever you have as emergency fund. You are not in a position to invest now. After paying off your loan after 3 years, then you can invest. Learn about investments first before you invest.

Don't wait too long to get married. Usually after 26, difficult for women to get married.
