Are they giving good discounts for the Infinity cars, eg Q50?, Q70? Any good offers?

We will be continuing to stay in our condo unit after retirement. Our passive investments should yield a total of 20k/month which will be a comfortable sum. By then, there will be no more big ticket items, hence the money can be used on living expenses.
I feel hurt by your comment. How can you say I have done poorly? I worked very hard and at least I have been staying in a condo. Majority don't stay in condos. Many forummers here also don't stay in condos. You are a show off and looking down on me and all of us. That's arrogance.

There are so many people who downgraded from their 4 or 5 room HDB flat to a studio HDB flat to monetize their flat when they retire. Are they all failures in your eyes?

Don't be hurt. You really believe he has 20k passive income? Come on, most people posting here need to get a life.

Do you know anyone who has downgraded when retiring? It is better to be prudent and live in a HDB all your life than try to show off and end up having to downgrade when retired. Some people find it hard to accept the change in lifestyle. Some of my friends like to show off last time when they made a lot, now that they retired they have to cut back a lot on their expenses. No more cars or expensive holidays. Me and my prudent friends still manage to get by with a second hand car and once a year holiday. Who is better off now?

This kind of debate has no right or wrong and can go on and on. At the end of the day, when we say goodbye to this earth, we must be at peace. We must have no regrets.

Your friends who lived their lives fully and enjoy themselves when they were earning a lot may be better off if you consider that some people do not live very long. So the guy who live frugally saving for his retirement may end up not living to an old age, or may not have good health to enjoy his savings.

For me, it is really about balance and living within one's means. When not earning much, live simply. When earning more, can afford to live more comfortably should go ahead.

If we dont earn much, it is sometimes difficult for us to appreciate the lifestyle of the wealthy. Like how do they afford a yatch, live in $6m condos, flying first class for overseas holidays etc.. For them, it is not a big deal.

I do not earn that much, but as I am older now, I think it is time to indulge a little once in a while.

We have to accept that is any society there will be rich people, not so rich people and poor people. It is the responsibility of the better off in society to help the poor people and not to look down on them. Worse, they just indulge in their wealth without any care for the poor and needy.

We will all die one day. No point to compete on how much wealth you have. You will not bring all the fortune you have to the grave. You work so hard only to die a couple of years post retirement while your children and grandchildren will just spend it away. Is that a foolish life or what?

Imagine you retire at 65 and die at 67. How sad right?

Do you want to retire in luxury? Yes, you can. You don't need to have millions to retire in luxury. Here is how.

Good retirement plan in KL or Penang (retire in luxury) for a retired couple at 55 years old (assuming no dependents)

Passive income at 55
Rent out fully paid HDB flat S$2.5k pm
Stocks dividends S$1k pm
Total S$3.5k pm or RM10.5k pm

KL or Penang cost of living
Rent a 3 bedroom condominium RM2k pm
Car expenses RM500 pm (assume buy car in cash RM50k)
Food, groceries, restaurants and utilities RM2k pm
Medical and entertainment RM1k pm
Misc RM500 pm
Total spending RM6k pm
Savings RM4.5k pm

Passive income at 65
Rent out fully paid HDB flat S$2.5k pm
Stocks dividends S$1k pm
CPF Life (Enhanced Retirement Scheme), couple gets S$3.5k pm
Total income S$7k pm or RM21k pm
Total spending RM8k pm
Savings RM13k pm

This retirement plan allows you to live in a nice condo and drive a nice car. You can go holidays all over the world every year if you want to since you will have lots of savings.
Your key retirement assets are: 1. HDB flat 2. CPF Life 3. Dividend blue chip stocks.

Stay cool, bro. You don't have to care what others say. Just do what is right.
