There is no need to compare. There will always be someone who earns more than you and is richer than you.

What is important is that you are contented with what you have. Look at those with lesser means and you will feel how lucky you are. There are billions of people in the world who live in poverty, who worry about their next meal. You should help them and not be preoccupied with how to be richer and richer.

Don't be caught up by obnoxious people in this forum, esp the ones who already have millions but still feel they don't have enough. They should go to Africa and many parts of Asia to know what poverty really means. These obnoxious people are arrogant, greedy fools. They are full of lust and insatiable greed.

Comparing with others is not a bad thing. It is what is you do and how you react with the knowledge after the comparison, that matters.

If after finding out that others are doing better than you, and that knowledge spurs you to do better, to improve yourself, then this is a good outcome. And this is the way it should be.

If on the other hand, the knowledge turns you into a jealous monster and you start to heap insults on others, now thats defeatist attitude. With this kind attitude, you will never progress and grow.

Conversely, if you find that you are well ahead of others, you may want to reward yourself and your family/ friends with some treats once in a while. Contribute more to charity or even consider early retirement for more "me" time.

Compare with an open mind. There is always something to pick up.

I'm turning 50 soon. I'm way ahead of my peers. I've decided to retire to pursue many things which I had no time for. I'm also devoting my time to charity work to help those in need. It is time for me to give back to society not only locally but globally. Before I die, I want help as many poor people as possible. Being rich is not only a privilege but it is a responsibility. I'm blessed with wealth and it is my responsibility to share my wealth with the needy.

I totally agree.

In fact the sole purpose of Yeap Ming Feng's post is to let people compare their household and individual income against others in Singapore.

The article is titled "The Average Singaporean Household Income: Where Do You Stand?" The link is here : //blog.seedly.sg/average-singaporean-household-income-stand/

Check it out.

I'm a low income 46 year old person. Earns only S$40k pa. Luckily our home is paid up. We can afford to retire when we reach 56. Our home is a valuable asset which can generate passive income for our retirement in Penang.

Our home can give us S$2k pm in rental income and after currency conversion we get RM6.2k pm. This would be enough for two retired old persons in Penang.

Our rental in Penang (3 BR condo with sea view, 1300 sqft) RM 2k pm
Utilities, car petrol and maintenance RM 700 pm
Food and groceries RM 1k pm
Medical and insurance RM 1k pm
Misc RM 500 pm
Total RM 5.2k pm
Savings RM 1k pm

Even though I'm low income I can still retire like a rich man, in a big condo with sea view. Penang is a good place to retire as the cost of living is lower. It is also a safe city. Much safer than KL and JB.

For those hoping to retire in Malaysia, I believe u need to apply for MM2H Or rather Malaysia My Second Home scheme in order to qualify for Long term stay. There r financial requirements to fulfil like monthly rm10k income amongst others. Do look it up first in your retirement planning.

You are brilliant! Your idea gives a lot of hope to so many people. We don't have to work until our 60s and 70s. Our HDB flat is our retirement asset. Our flat gives us a home to live in now and later becomes an asset which can generate passive income. We are so lucky as we can buy cheap BTO flat. So lucky!

You have a very noble heart. If there are more people like you, the world will be a much better place.

Most people are consumed with greed and lust. Even though they own millions, they are still lusting for more. Never enough for them. Greedy fools.
