Comparing with others is not a bad thing. It is what is you do and how you react with the knowledge after the comparison, that matters.

If after finding out that others are doing better than you, and that knowledge spurs you to do better, to improve yourself, then this is a good outcome. And this is the way it should be.

If on the other hand, the knowledge turns you into a jealous monster and you start to heap insults on others, now thats defeatist attitude. With this kind attitude, you will never progress and grow.

Conversely, if you find that you are well ahead of others, you may want to reward yourself and your family/ friends with some treats once in a while. Contribute more to charity or even consider early retirement for more "me" time.

Compare with an open mind. There is always something to pick up.

What is important is that you are contented with what you have. Look at those with lesser means and you will feel how lucky you are. There are billions of people in the world who live in poverty, who worry about their next meal. You should help them and not be preoccupied with how to be richer and richer.

Don't be caught up by obnoxious people in this forum, esp the ones who already have millions but still feel they don't have enough. They should go to Africa and many parts of Asia to know what poverty really means. These obnoxious people are arrogant, greedy fools. They are full of lust and insatiable greed.
