Then pay wise is principal RP comparable to being a school principal? 🤔

Anyone know how’s the situation in Australia right now? If let’s say I finish Med school in 6 years, would the situation be better? What about the situation in Singapore? With the recent developments, will the problem of ultra competitiveness of all specialties still be present down the road? What about Singapore taking in IMGs? They recently removed schools, I doubt they will straight up reject all IMGs without protecting those that are already studying medicine midway overseas. Just like how the current medical school removal from second schedule doesn’t affect students already studying in the removed school when it’s announced.

australia is bad now, just google "internship crisis australia", there was a report by the australian medical student association. i know a friend who managed to get a job this year but many of his friends are struggling. i can only imagine it will get worse in 6 years if they keep taking in so many people. soon it will become ireland where you have no chance of getting a job. i would say think twice about doing this degree, if you can do something else, maybe do that..
i think getting a job in singapore will be harder but still possible, as many doctors leave after their bond, but the job is just to fill up the junior positions and do the saikang, whether you get into residency is another thing. the problem now is they are producing too many specialists, not enough consultant jobs, and are scaling down the intake. it could correct itself in a few years but it will probably still be competitive anyway as sg is a small place.
maybe you decide to be a gp, with the amount of graduates in the future, it could flood the market and it might be a bad option in the future as well

If principal RP pay is that of consultant then why specialise right? Just be a RP and lead the better life with the same pay?

I read they are scaling down the medical student intake and increasing the funding for more internship places in Australia especially in rural areas

Because you'll never have the salary of a SENIOR consultant nor the satisfaction of being called a specialist? Nor the prestige and opportunity to rise in hospital administration ranks?

Actually a consultant pay isn't that much different from SC pay right? I can put up with that haha so is RP -> principal RP like a straightforward track? How many years does it take?

Depends on the department and whether or not they have job openings for RPs... I guess most do as they need RPs to do the dirty work on blue letters, clinics, Weekend rounds etc (basically reg work, but the key difference is they don't have to find a specialist job for you at the end of 3-4 yrs)
There's RP (MO level) then senior RP then principal RP.
