Hi can I ask if the pay for hos, mo, reg, rp, associate consultant, consultant difers from each individual batch and each individual?
For example, can they pay you more as an AC/C if for e.g you have more publications?

Similarly, can they cut the pay for mo, reg, RP, AC for subsequent batches if let say the economy is bad or if there is an oversupply of doctors/specialist

In general the salaries are getting better and better in public sector

Last time ho starting pay is 1.8k, now is 4k

Same thing for con. The 2015 pay revision really improved the pay of public sector.
After tax, our healthcare pay ranks one of the best in the world - better than uk.

Generally speaking , one or two minor publication will not affect ur advancement.
Singapore public sector generally is service oriented - meaning how well you manage patients, Volume of patients you see, workflow improvement, cost savings. So that it the core competency. Research is a by the way thing.

That said having more publications in your spare time, 50-100 with good citations, and u will be offered academic positions.

Can you discuss some benefits of being in academia?

I have seen some family physicians being given the title of consultant and senior consultants either in polyclinic or community hospital. I was wondering how do you become a consultant as a family physician, and will you be paid equally as the specialist consultants in the hospital?

Yes you will get roughly the same pay which the same as a gp in pte practice

Please note that to get to fam med con.
You need a fcpfs.

And whether they are positions for con.

In general the time taken to reach fm con is twice that of the usual specialist.
Think ho + 3yr fm residency + 1 year mcpfs + 3-5 real life experience + 2 years fcpfs = 12 years at least

Just curious, is the life of a gp really better than that of a hospital consultant? (as what many people have claimed)
I am currently still a junior mo (so may not see the whole picture), but from what I can see life as a consultant doesn't look too bad. They finish their ward rounds usually by late morning, then just chill in their office for the rest of the day. Most of the issues in the ward seem to be handled by the reg. Of course, they do run clinics and do some research work in addition, but overall life doesn't seem to be too bad, as compared to gps who run clinic everyday..

does the profs or drs who hold concurrent appointments in the medical schools like yong loo lin and lee kong chian get paid for their university appointment as well? E.g. if they are a senior con in the hospital + a vice dean appointment, do they get paid by both the healthcare institute and the university?

No they are not paid for academic work. It is voluntary for the betterment of mankind.

Hi, is anyone here able to breakdown the benefits of being a RP compared to the usual residency path? In terms of work life, pay grade, job progression etc. Was offered a RP pathway and not sure if I wanna take it up.

Hospital consultant is definitely way better. GP you have to see patients the entire day for lower pay. Con you do morning rounds after the registrar has pre-rounded and in the afternoon either chill admin time or clinics at 30min per patient
