One firms is offering $300 to RLTs? A couple of others are offering $800 for trainees? And $1k seems to pretty common.

Any comments, seniors?
We were talking about salary after being called, not before.

Anyway the salary for RLT/TC has always been low

Do the small/mid-size law firms featured in Legal500/IFLR1000/Chambers&Partners generally pay well, or does it differ? I am currently in a no name firm and want to change firms.

Dude unless you have a firm M&A offer somewhere else, take it.

Yes I have a M&A offer with another firm. Just want to find out more about my options if that's ok

There were some discussions on TC allowances which ranges from $300~$2000. Can you share the allowances offered in your TC? And is it big firms, mid sized or small firms?

My M&A TC is with a mid-sized firm, 1500. My B&F TC is with a big firm, 2000.

This is a no brainer. B&F is a good field to enter. And big firms open more doors. Happy to have a chat with you if you need. I've been doing B&F for 6 years. Started at a big firm and went international last year for a fat pay increase.

I totally agree. Go for the big firms if can. B&F is a very good field because we are a major financial centre. All the international firms set up shop here to do B&F work. While M&A is also a good field, but it is more niche and there are times when there are few deals. Besides your M&A TC is with a mid-sized firm, so you may not be involved in the biggest deals in the land or region. Go big firm B&F.

don't go there unless you are desperate. its beneath the dignity of an LLB holder, regardless of whether you studied in Singapore or overseas. You can get more value with your law degree by applying to other industries / civil service. Unless of course, you're a 50 Shades of Grey fan (read: sucker for punishment).
Agree. I'm sure somewhere someone else will take a chance. If the Arts student can apply to MFA, MA programmes, stat boards, management consulting etc. I'm sure the law students are good enough. The prospects for these places are definitely better than all these 1 man shop.

MFA does take alot of nus law students and alot of them have been doing internships with MFA although it is still difficult to get inside and it is hard to return to the legal industry if you do decide to go this route
