Think D&N has really slipped in the traditional finance and transactional areas like banking, ECM and DCM cap markets, project fin, where it is on par or even less well regarded than Dentons rodyk. In M&A and funds is it slightly above Dentons but even their corp/M&A team isn't strong (for a so called Big 4). These are all borne out in the rankings too.

For a big full service firm, they do have some gaping holes in their offerings like shipping and VC work. Most of their strengths are in liti and liti adjacent areas like R&I, employment. They hv discrete strengths in IP and tax.

If you're talking about WP or A&G, no.

It’s hard to make an internal switch from liti to corp after a few years of practice. The reason is a practical one - you’ll be a complete noob when you move from liti to corp, and there’s little business case for them to allow you to do the switch. That said, it has been done before, but you’ll really need to be able to convince your partner to allow you to do so. Otherwise, just change firm and change practice area. You might get a PQE cut but that’s that.

Honest question - what's the best way to get into the big US firms in SG, e.g. Latham, Cooley, GunDett, Sidley?

Its all over their big obnoxious signature bar leh.

Every day thousands of emails are being sent to clients, opposing counsel, counterparties and the courts declaring Rodyk a "Big 5" firm.

Once you repeat something enough times, it becomes generally accepted as "fact". That's what advertising and PR is about.

This question has come up many times.

Honestly, most of the singaporeans getting into top US firms (white shoe) are Oxbridge grads. Seems like most top firms don’t really care about NUS FCH or SMU summa.

They want the pedigree to maintain the prestige / continue being able to charge clients top rates, get good pitches, etc etc.

And by top US firms, i dont refer to all the JLVs or the magic circle / magic circle JLV (CC/Baker which accepts top local grads).

Hence the singaporeans who get into top US firms are still really a cut above .
