Do they have competency or strengths-based tests or interviews?
Which other firms require such tests during their interviews?

I think they have a paralegal role in the same team advertised too

You can ask as to the numerous departures from HE in the recent years.

Frankly speaking, narcissistic people should steer clear of law.
They are toxic. Law will just make them worse.
When they become partners, coupled with ego-maniac inducing environment, this is manifested in maniac depression and psychosis.

Out of curiosity, given how small this profession is, I presume partners would usually know what people think about them? A negative workplace environment would obviously not attract talent. If so, why are there still, as some of the earlier posters have suggested, toxic behaviour?

There is an assumption that said partner wants to retain talent.
Unfortunately, that's not always true for various reasons.

Well... Toxic behaviour exists everywhere. It is a norm. Accept it, don't seek to fight it. When your time comes, and you make partner, you can change how you deal with your juniors. It is the system.

Just ask any of the older lawyers whether they have witnessed or experienced abuse as a junior. It is a cycle. At one point the abused become the abuser.

Narcissists and sociopaths possess certain traits that are useful for climbing the corporate ladder.

Usually the nasty ones have forced extremely hard their entire lives to be where they are.
They are probably not that smart, average IQ, but through sheer hard work, have been able to rise up slightly.

They see others with much contempt and hatred.

Unless of course you’re a pretty girl, they help to make the workplace slightly kinder and more forgiving. They help to kill off the competitive “Yang” energy in the workplace.
