Dude, you need bigger self esteem

Not everything in life is about money

what matters most is having compassion, kindness, health and love in family.

you see people earn $10k, you go and pursue and reach the mark.

then you see others earning $20k, you go sprint again.

by time you reach $20k, you be happier? how long more? you will still have health to enjoy?

It's not a lot compared to private practice but worth it for what you get in return. I barely have to work late. Medical and Dental benefits extend to spouse and children. Generous leave policy including days off without the need for MC over and on top of medical leave and childcare leave. It's not too bad a deal, especially if you're thinking of settling down.
I'm the original PQE2 poster of the in house question, thanks for sharing this. In house 8.5k during early 30s would indeed be a paycut as I'm currently making that excluding bonuses (in my late 20s).
How much room is there for salary growth when an in house counsel hits her/his peak at 40s-50s? Would 3-400k pa (similar to a partner) be achievable? Cheers again

For that much, i could engage 5 external counsels from a top tier practice.

It is possible, though i must be honest - its rare. As an in-house you are no longer a profit center but a cost center.

One option is to look out for Banking/FI jobs, particularly in specialized areas like PE.

The other way is the join a credible start-up. Fintech is on the up at the moment and when these start-ups get bought over or list on stock exchange, you'll likely be able to cash out. Think Alibaba's acquisition of lazada.

In "industries" there is a clear divide between in-house counsels that want to do only legal work and in-house counsels that go above and beyond to involve themselves in the business planning and execution (think executive decision making). My GC earns partner level pay, but he is as much a business man as he is a lawyer. You will have to determine for yourself what kind of in-house counsel you want to be - this too determines how much you can earn.

one has to be realistic. if you want to move in-house and still expecting the same levels of increment, bonuses and pay, then that sort of job opportunity is extremely rare.

something needs to give. if your priority is money, then stay where you are.

I am a partner.

I have a problem.

There is a love triangle going on in my office
Two of my associates guys who recently broke up are hitting on the same female associate in office.
What should I do next?
It’s getting complicated
