Shagged. I’m a trainee at Baker now and drawing 2k a month. Not even enough for food and taxi (not able to claim taxi mostly because of difficult claiming system). Working till 2am daily. FML. Honestly the amount of work we are doing, should entitle us to a higher salary. CC pays its trainees 7k, why can’t other firms follow?

Am I in a better position?
I am paid $1500 only but I get to go home by 6.30 everyday.
The amount of work I handle is relatively straight forward and my boss will guide me when I am unsure of anything. I get to go to attend court hearings for exposure and learning.

However I wonder if my pay is too little?

Should I move to a bigger firm for better pay say $2000?

Because CC is an English law firm that does a two-year training contract (so trainees are getting paid about $7k for two years before getting the NQ pay which is about $10k or so), whereas other firms do the Singapore law training contract which is merely six months - CC does pay more obviously but they are an outlier and only offer a handful of training contracts in Singapore each year.

So CC doesn’t have to follow LPA to conduct 6 month tc and can run their own 2 year tc?

Doesn’t explain why then post tc sg firms don’t pay $7k or more.

I suggest you move to a bigger firm for greater challenges and $500 more.

I suggest you quit now lah. work until so unhappy also no prospects of retention.
Even you get retained and get paid $8,000, do you have the time, health, personal relationships to spend the money with quality?

We only leave once. Dont stay sad. Choose to be happy.

I think CC does a hybrid system whereby you do a 6 month Singapore TC with Cavenagh which is their Singapore tie-up, followed by a 1.5 months UK law training with CC itself in order to be dual-qualified in English and Singapore law.

However, after the two years, you will join either CC or Cavenagh (if you get retained, again there are no statistics for this) - so there is some uncertainty here whether the pay is different if you join their Singapore law practice as opposed to their UK law practice. You will probably have to ask people who were actually on the programme and have already qualified.
