How may months bonus does the average salaried partner get? Considering they do not have CPF I'm assuming its quite substantial?

Quite smart of A&G imo, signals to the market that they are number 1 if the other big 4s refuse to follow

yeah that's what a salary war means. although if no one else takes the bait, it will just fizzle out and prove the point that local law firms are sh*t.

just need 1 more big 4 to move upwards and confirm the rest will follow.

in the US and UK, if one of the big firms move, the rest will follow like clockwork.

Law is a prestige obsessed industry, especially for international firms. Build up your profile, get some publications under your belt, plus a few academic awards or Deans list (even from donkey years back) and you'll be a fairly competitive candidate. It goes without saying that you should be coming in from a big 4 at least.

Basically, think of anything that will look good on a lawyer's profile page in an international firm's website, and that should be the angle you should aim for.
chill la, employment income isn't the only wealth builder

my friend works at a Chinatown firm and plans to retire next year when he turns 40

his investment returns have compounded his net worth

When the rest of the big4 start to see their associates quit for A&G they might wake up their idea.

He/she wasn't talking about wealth leh. Its a fact that in law, if you start out in a "good" firm, you will have an easier time attaining a higher trajectory than if you start out in a "lousy" or small firm. In Singapore, big 4 is about as good as it gets for young lawyers to start their careers, apart from the internationals.

I don't disagree with you - i've some law school friends working in small firms on profit sharing basis and they're doing very comfortably. better than some big firm junior partners tbh

Honestly depends on what you want la, unless you are the top 5% of lawyers who become EP at big/international firms, you'll probably earn more as JP of a smaller firm (and can control your hours better), than anyone stuck in the middle ranks of the bigger firms.

And yes, Chinatown Lawyers do earn quite a lot given that their expenses are quite low and mostly 1/2 man eating the whole pie.
