Not exactly true. I've seen cases of people being asked to leave due to poor performance. In any case, if your performance is not up to standard, they'll make sure you know come pay increment and bonus time.

bro, many ppl in the forum dun know big cannon or not and they are definely not representative of the whole sg population. ur pay is pretty standard in banking. not everyone can work for Goldman Sachs.

This is nonsense. No way a avp makes $15.5k.
Don't confuse with associate director. AD is a VP equivalent role. And VPs will typically draw $15.5k area (+/- $4k).

They can (AVP band is one of the widest) and it is dependent on two major factors:
1. Years of experience
2. Job function
A young AVP can also adjust his/her pay quicker by either changing job function (within same bank) or joining a competitor.
I reached AVP in 4 years in corp banking (offshore bank), stayed in the same bank (joined since school). AVP Pay was ~$8k (immediately after promo). Left immediately after promotion to join another bank as a AVP. (role change. Now abit of investment banking elements) Pay rose to $11k+. Recently, (after 1 year) I've been approached to join a local bank, I've been advised by headhunter that the pay range for nego is (AVP: $6-18k)
