if one doesn't mind a 8k/month peak income, is bank BO a good career choice? in terms of ease of promotion and stability

It depends on the bank. Some banks are more stable and easy to promote then others. Example job in Japanese bank is quite stable and 'auto-promote' every few years as long as no kok up.
So yes if you dun mind your salary peaking, BO job is good. I know BO aunties who have been in the bank for 30+ years also happy happy almost on the dot go home.

so comparing bank BO and civil service jobs, in terms of $$, bank is def better? for a non-ambitious avg local grad who works just for money.

civil service sld be able to peak at ard 10k?
much more job stability and maybe less stressful (depends on which dept) compared to bank also.

jus to add on.. if u not chionging for above average salary, den civil service might be a better option... ppl who go private either dont have the grades or they are those who are trying to have a shot at earning much more.

Ya i think you need relatively good grades to get into civil/public service? I got SIM-UOL degree I apply to Spring singapore kenna rejected leh But I worked in 5 different banks leh >_<

Usually yes, thats why those want simple life balance and no career ambition should join public sector instead of wasting time in banks.
