People keep comparing base salaries, why doesn't anyone see how unrepresentative it is?? Some companies give 13th mth AWS, some rebase it into their 12 month salary, some give RSUs, some give more bonuses and some even give allowances. If y'all just look at base pay during salary negotiations I'm sorry to say, HR is going to play you. A company that pays 6k base with no AWS and measly bonus is not better paying than another that pays 5.5k with AWS and better bonuses, which you wont be able to tell because you are fixated on the 6k > 5.5k. The real number to look at is annual TC or rough TC, negotiations should be made based on this number.

true, compare annual but bonus is not fixed, so sometime ppl use monthly pay as comparison.

I actually think the not fixed part plays in our favour, because we can give a more inflated number as a "rough gauge" based on the variable bonuses.

I'm non-CS, FCH in Engineering (non-computing related). Gotten an offer from FAANG, but only after 1+ YoE doing tech in another company. So it IS possible.

Alternatives wise, DBS SEED is 5.5k off the bat, but note it's not a permanent position. IME, focus on getting the right skills, have a plan where you want to go, and never stop upskilling. I made the poor choice of not selecting CS for my undergrad (I thought it was a passing fad), but I'm sure you will find your path.

It's true that nobody really cares about the FCH, but you need to tell yourself that it is a testament to your ability to learn, which is most important in your future growth.

Sorry, I stand corrected. Yes DBS SEED is 5k. I made a typo. I don't need to prove my offer here
