Default Will my degree from a 'less prestigious' uni matter years from now?

Currently taking an IT related course in one of SUTD/SIT/SUSS and plan to work as a software engineer after graduating.
But during the past year I've constantly seen threads/been told that some places don't even bother looking at your resume if you are not from NUS/NTU/SMU.

So my question is, will my degree matter after a few years of job experience or does it only affect fresh graduates?

No. It is the fairest of all. U pass coding interview, u get the job. You cmi even u from mit also cannot get the job.

Make sure u are solid in ur technical skills. Not half past six.

SUTD should have similar prestige to the big 3 uni given how it takes in good/top A level students

For software engineering in pte sector (good companies), if you can pass their tech interviews you are good to go. You'll easily learn more than those from 'more prestigious' uni from other faculties.

From last I heard, your progression will be limited by your degree / results if you work in govt. Not sure if that changed, if anyone knows pls correct.

Doesn't matter in the private sector, and i believe IT skills are in high demand anyway, so you shouldn't have a problem.

But if you are from other specialised courses from the 'less prestigious unis', i would say it affects the number of interviews you'll be invited to.

I think in the near future, the uni matters lesser. Employers value more of internships and skills like programming these days.

For private sector, after 1st job, nobody really cares which uni you came from or what grades you got. All it matters is you got a degree.

In fact, even for the 1st job, internships and relevant work experience matter more though a good degree still helps.

Technical skills and work performance are all that matters after that.

It still matters to a certain degree, because education sticks with you forever on your resume.
However, it is only matters for getting an interview.
There are other ways to boost your chances in getting interviews, such as joining hackathon, side projects & coding competition.

afterwards, it is just having the required knowledge in passing interviews. Some companies wants candidate with strong computer science theoretical knowledge, so they tend to hire from nus & ntu more.

Very much still brand name driven.
Look at both the leaders in public and private sectors.
Of course there are anomalies, but it takes a lot more effort and hard work if you are trying to scale up from a lower starting point
