Default What should my next step be?

Dear all, would like to seek some advice as I only started working for couple years.

I am currently on a contract job under recruiting company, outsourced to an MNC, which I was devastated about as I really wanted a perm job. When I started though, I was quite hopeful when I found out the prev 3 staff that had been in my role were all converted promptly when their contract ended.

However, it seems like they are not really opening up their headcount now so I must have entered at a bad time. Plus I entered just after another contract staff with a more advantageous role My contract is going to be renewed for a second time and I am considering jumping ship.

Is it a wise move? And if so, I would like to know whether a govt sector job(eg. CPF) or working in small jap company startup would be more advisable.

Come back when you actually have a few offers to compare. Not trying to be rude or what, but in this bad job market unless you have pristine academic credentials or a good CV with top MNC exp, it's kind of pointless to talk about this or that better, should I do this or do that etc.

Go and actually look for jobs and see if you can get any concrete offers to compare first then talk.

Ask yourself. What do I want?

High pay. Go to private industry.

Stability, so I can pay my bills with no fear of recession. Go with Civil Service.

Adventure. Join startup or be your own boss. Shitty pay for long hours and unknown future. Pay dirt can be huge or bankruptcy.

Enjoy life. Slow pace, living from day to day. I know a guy who works on a bench and watches clouds every day. Easy stress-free life with low pay.

Personally, my field of study is in an industry that loves to fire people who are in their mid-forties and fifties. When you hit that age, your pay is too high and those in their mid-thirties have the skillset to do your job at lower pay. They fire those in 40s and let those in 30s work their way up and repeat the cycle again. I did an analysis, pulled data, charted my course of action and have no regrets.

What do you want?

+1

Now is employer market, most people with average CV will have to apply many openings for a long time before getting anything. Not really up to employees to choose what to do now unless you have the right connection.

Yup, sorry. Was too anxious, hence the post. Just went for 3 interviews yesterday and today, another CPF interview coming up next week. Quite afraid that if the offer comes and I don't decide quick enough, I may lose the chance. Will wait for further news.

Another question. Have some relatives working in public sector and from hearsay, is it really all that good? Pay may be average, but heard that there are bonuses throughout the year, educational sponsorship and good benefits?
