$4.5k to work into late nights, you serious?

What sorcery is keeping these dudes at work for such salary?

Hi guys this forum has been extremely insightful and helpful for an aspiring law student and practitioner!!
Im currently a year 2 student from NTU and my gpa is around 4.7 (Majoring in philosophy).

Im sure that with my grades i can get into NUS GLB or SMU JD however I am aspiring for more and it would be great if anyone could share experiences of anybody who got into Havard, Columbia or NYU JD! Based on my own limited research, I've noticed that the Singaporeans who went to Havard law JD took law as an undergraduate degree already. I' And if you do do you guys feel that I'd have even a puncher's chance of getting in. (Assuming that my lsat meets the requirement)

I'd also like to inquire about the oxbridge ba jurisprudence (senior status). SILE has one of its requirement that to register for the bar, the degree must not be "accelerated". The ba jurisprudence is 2 years as compared to the normal 3 years. Would it be considered as an accelerated degree?

Senior status BA Jur is not a recognised degree for admission, because it doesn't meet the 3 year min requirement.

I'd be upbeat about your chances of entering NUS GLB or SMU JD, but not really Harvard Columbia NYU JD. Bear in mind that you're competing with the entire pool of LSAT takers and top undergrad GPA scorers across America and the acceptance rates for HYSCCN (Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Columbia, Chicago, NYU) are very low.

Your CV must be very compelling, e.g. Singaporean who had graduated with top GPA from Ivy League undergrad and summa cum laude, won some scholarship or something along those lines. Even local American summas may not have a chance with HYSCCN. I'm sorry but NTU is just not going to cut it.

That's not even touching on the issue of how well you score for the LSATs, which is about 50% weightage.

My advice is go try for SMU or NUS. A law degree is a law degree. If you do well and get qualified, try to land a reputable firm / big 4 firm and work your way up there to international firms.

I’ll advise you for Oxbridge. Usually it is difficult to get into Oxbridge BA Law. Don’t forget you’re competing with people who have just completed their A Levels. They don’t usually take in mature candidates for their BA Law programme. That’s the sad reality.

I dont think that you should be that sure that you will sure get into NUS GLB or SMU JD. End of the day, application for school still has some uncertainty factors.

Even if there is precedent before, it does not means that you will get into it even with higher grades.

I am not discouraging you. Rather i am letting you know about life. A lot local student always have this type of "atas" or " damn great" feeling. And if you are really that great from the start, you will have been able to choose llb before rather than making a second shot on it.

Cheers.

That’s true. I see quite a lot of SMU/NUS 2:1 saying they want to go to Oxbridge/Harvard for postgrad law. Like as if it’s a sense of entitlement.
One or two local unis with 2:1 making it to these programs doesn’t set a precedent (as this poster rightly pointed out). Even some of my first class friends (ranked 2nd in cohort) have been rejected before.
