To be honest I don't think it will be of much help. Although you can try to bring in some points you missed out during the interview.
I send thank you letter only to reinforce a good interview, i'd be too ashamed to send one if the interview ended badly.

doesn't seem to be commonly practised here, i won't do it as i don't think it will change anything for the better or worse.
