Why are engineers these days struggling to even afford HDB flats.. Squeesing like sadines in MRT everyday cos cannot afford a car...... Stingy on ordering that bigger plate of chicken rice cos of budget... Pathetic.....
And to quote what somebody said of engineering degree : One degree, many careers opportunites... My arse... It's the biggest scam ever.... Really regret walking down this dead end road....
Yeah. Always thought EEE is broad. Many opportunities. I think we are all better off in the middle east (or basically anywhere around the World)

I've been living in SG for the past 15 years and regardless of having to work my ass off, I still love it here and I still wish to get citizenship and settle here for good. But sometimes I feel that I have a choice to get out of here and work somewhere where I can actually make a living with proper work life balance.

Just being very discouraged after reading through the 60+ pages.

Firstly, I must clarify that engineering faculty is not a damping ground. If u look at the intake cutting point each year, many of them are 3A, 4A students. The grade profile for engineering is better than many other faculties.

Furthermore, the course for engineering is not easy. When I was taking a buz module, I only need to spend half of the time to get a better grade than a engin core module. Hence I really think the engin ppl are great(just look at what kind of courses they have gone through).

I have heard many success stories of engineers in other industries but rarely any other-than-engineers success story in engineering industries. Hence I make the decision to study engineering in uni. I always believe that other things can be self-learned but not science/engineering.

It is so disheartened to see soooooo many dissatisfaction in the engineering community. No matter it is a one-sided view or the unrevealed truth. It just tells me, sg is not a place for engineers. This shuts a door in front of the science-inclined. Should they just try their luck or flee.

Not to mention the shocking racism and FT. The world is never fair, and we need to make ourselves to the upper-side. It is just sad....

I am from top 5 jc, recently received my A level results.
Nobody I know with 4A or better results is going to nus or ntu engineering.
Having said that, many top students still go to top overseas universities such imperial college, mit but not to become engineers but to be startup entreprenuer, banker, or mckinsley consultant in future....

I think the high cut off point for local uni engineering course ( exception chemical) is a myth

These top students are making the right choice, probably advised by teachers and their well-informed parents.

Those still in denial, like the poster 2 posts above, should go ahead to the dumping grounds. After reading his post written in deplorable English, I think he deserves Engineering as much as Engineering deserves him (how did he even get into a JC???). Sorry for being blunt - the working world out there is even worse!

Cut your loses. I had a JC senior who switched to business after 1 year in engineering. Landed a job in a bank that paid him 3x his starting salary in engine.

It's true that most Singaporean shun engineering works. My company in construction has been unsuccessful in finding Singaporean engineers to fill vacancies. The top management even lament that there won't be any Singaporean left to take over the management posts once they retire in another 10-15years. There isn't many young Singaporean engineers left in my company.

Answer : =====> U wait long long, fresh Engineering grad, demand for 3k!!... I can easily employ a cheaper PRC/fillipino to work 24/7 for me at 2000 flat.. somemore no need to pay for any dental and medical benefits, best of all... no complaints... Cheap and good!! Thks to gahmen for agressively importing cheaper PRC workforce.. So my cost is kept low.. and every year my profits can increase..

How much will he be getting after 5 years in your company? Can hit 5k basic?
====> Wait long long... Refer to my same response in part 1... If lucky with 1 promotion, maybe he can hit nearing 3k... ( Based on benchmark starting salary at 2000 )

You goota be joing rite??!!! package is 13th month + perf bonus typically around 0.5mth to 1.5mth....
