Singtel and STengineering are both GLC, so that salary scale and increment will be almost the same.....
Really, it is very hard to hit 5k with 5 years exp in these 2 GLC, even you are a very outstanding performer, with at most 2 promotion in 5 years......
So I assume your bro last draw salary with ST just b4 he left is 5k ?? or can you give more info on that?
How long he stay in ST?
Last drawn pay with ST?
Current salary is 8k which you mention

The signs are on the wall. Literally. Remember those fancy wall posters they put up in the MRT stations encouraging students to go into engineering with the tagline "Where would we be without Engineering"?
The ironic message is, all the products they featured on their poster, Iphone..etc, are all engineered OUTSIDE SINGAPORE.
That pretty much tells you the prospects of Engineering in Singapore in a nutshell.

He started off in Singtel but left after 1 year. Even though base pay was low he drew 7 months bonus. When he went to the new company, he negotiated on basis of his last drawn total package in Singtel. I think he got offered close to 4k in that firm. He stayed in that American software company for 1 year but moved on to another US firm based on an ex-colleague's recommendation. After a year, he tried to leave again. However as he was on some client project which if delayed would cost the firm quite significant financial penalty, he was offered a significant pay rise to stay. This was just after he got his bonus and increment for the year, so his pay went up quite significantly. He plans to jump ship again after the project ends. That's all I can share.

Nope, my services are charged at an average of $130/hr by my coy. but decided to pay me less than 10% of that because they can get some "FT" to do what i can + wash the toilet for 200 less.

prospects for a chemical/process engineer
hi, i'll like to ask the engineer community here (in singapore) what are the prospects for someone with a bachelor degree in chemical engineering, and 2+ years working experience as process engineer for a MNC chemical company?
my friend now works overseas (since graduation), but would like to move back to asia for personal reasons. unfortunately, she is worried about culture shock, long hours and low(er) pay.
what would be the choice companies/roles for somebody with such a profile, and how much would the expected salary be?

Bad year for banking professionals despite record earnings
Many local banks freeze or reduce increment and bonuses despite some of them earning very strong/record revenue unscathed by the financial crisis.
A few of my peers got retrenched in foreign banks and people in Finance and accounting and backoffice are getting paid lesser and lesser. I'm sure a lot of my peers won't mind switching to other industries.

Really? I seriously doubt people in banks will change to other industries... maybe oil&gas (non-engineering). No nid to say, confirm wun go to engineering industry de, its like born in swiss, moved to congo

No doubt about it bonus for this year is really bad. Nevertheless, pay at investment banks still higher than other industries. Here is some guidance.
Numbers are in S$. Base Salary/ Total Compensation:
Citi.
• Managing Director : Base Salary 400-550k, Total Comp 1mm+
• Director : 300-400k, 400-650k
• Vice President : 200-250k, 300-500k
• Associate : 140-170k, 200-350k
Goldman
• Managing Director : Base Salary 500k-600k, Total Comp 1mm+
• Executive Director : 300k-450k, 700k – 950k
• Vice President : 190-250k ,350k-500k
• Associate : Base 140-160k, 200-350k
JPM
• Managing Director : Base Salary 400k-600k, Total Comp 1mm+
• Executive Director : 300k-400k, 600-800k
• Vice President : 180-250k, 350-600k
• Associate : 130-170k, 190-300k
MS
• Managing Director : Base Salary 400k-500k, Total Comp 1mm+
