Default Working as and M and E engineer in the construction industry

Hello guys, I will graduate with a degree in mechanical engineering next year and I am thinking of joining the construction industry as an M and E engineer.

The only thing I know about the M and E engineer job is that it doesn't have regular working hours.

Just trying to look for some advice from current M and E engineers on how the industry is like, how the career progression is like for an M and E engineer, how the pay is, whether the irregular working hours occur on a regular basis and etc....

Construction is irregular hours no matter what rank, this one cannot escape. In terms of career progression, you need to move into project management or business development.

Otherwise as a field engineer you will never progress beyond 15k even if work for more than 10 years.

Construction industry is okay. You will learn alot but the pay is low.
The industry is not promising.

Joining the civil service, you will have a good starting pay but you will end up as a paper engineer.

Would be best to enter the private industry for a few years of practical design experience then join civil sector. So later on, you can apply to be a professional Engineer.

Not everyone likes to deal with customers and subordinates as a manager. I am also engineer in high tech company and now drawing 12k+, happy with just dealing with technical issues even if that means lower glass ceiling.

Just to get back to topic, I am a field engineer/project manager in a Korean construction company. 15 years exp drawing app. 290k inclusive of all allowance & bonus. In terms of work hours, it is mainly project driven. During peak periods and falling behind deadlines there are times I work 48 hrs straight only taking short breaks at site.
