how does singapore decide which medical schools are recognised and which are not? The list seems a la carte... for example all Belgian medical schools select students via the same entrance exam but only 1 school is recognised. Just curious if anyone knows the reason why (I understand for UK or Australia where some schools seem "better" than others, but not for countries in Europe where med school entrance is by a common entrance exam)

Part of the decision is based ln reciprocity in recognizing Singapore Med schools and degrees.
Recognizing medical school is one thing. But recognizing specialty training is another.

rubbish
most countries accept medical schools as long as it is listed on the world directory of medical schools
s://.who.int/teams/health-workforce/world-directory-of-medical-schools

however most countries required that u take a local licensing examination - PLAB for UK, USMLE for US, AMC for australia etc

How sg decide is really up to anyone guess. Prestige of the school , performance history of graduates from the school is one.

For Eg, ANU , australia national university set up its medical school not too long ago ( 2007 i think) but it got recognized in 2009

Anyway, even if your school isn't on the registrable list , you can actually apply to take the YSLLOM final professional exams and be allowed to get provisional registration in SG to start as an intern

Would like to ask the asthestics and fm pple on this forum.
Is the evidence behind asthestics methods of weight loss strong? (Things like fat freezing, em shape etc)

I was working in ops, one of the overweight pts asked me this question during a chronic review.
Of course I just gave the standard answer. Best is to eat healthy, exercise. If you can afford asthestics treatment, go ahead as tolerated as long as it works for you.

But was wondering if the evidence behind asthestics like fat freezing/em shape etc? As you know there are newer methods of weight loss nowadays (your intermittent fasting, ketogenic diet etc)

Cryolipolysis and HIFEM devices are body CONTOURING devices. They should not be marketed as weight loss devices.

The weight loss from these devices are insignificant. I do screen my patients well and counsel them about this. The ones who follow through with either treatments are motivated to work out on their own as well, so they are able to achieve their ideal physique. The ones who are less motivated to work out are usually not very happy with the results.
