that depends on your performance. of course there will come a time where wage ceiling will hit the degree level when HR reviews your work performance for promotion.

Did you take up the offer?

In my honest opinion, unless you see yourself working hard to constantly upgrade and "chiong", please go public. With only a $200 pay cut, that's only $2400 less in a year. But if you compare the overall annual package of your current job and the potential job in the public sector, I'm sure it'll be the same or even better (in the public sector).

In addition, you will be assured of increments and bonuses every year as compared to private, so it's better than where you are currently.

So like I said earlier, unless you're those who will jump around the private sector, constantly upgrade yourself and network, work hard to climb up the corporate ladder, then it's better to take up the offer.

Yes. I believe public is better. As I am not that hardworking to hop around. Thanks for the advises

Hi, I am planning to move from pte to public because of job security. I work as a IT support in the pte industry close to 20 yrs and because of coy not doing well. I am willing to forgo 500 paycut from my current pay. What is the chances of getting employed in the public sector?

FTs are no longer cheap, especially where the once-2nd rate FTs like Indians and Pinoys are coming in on salaries that locals will not mind.

we need to compare with similar countries with high amount of foreign labour, ie middle east countries (esp GCC). while it is possible to hire foreigners there but they make you jump through hoops. companies have to give localization plans on how many % to localize by X years and are held accountable by it.

while i agree that singaporeans should not be complacent and should always strive to improve ourselves, but we still need that little help from our govt to offer a degree of protection to locals too..

Hi bro, i also come from a IT support background. In fact is SOE now going to WOG, under NCS. i am also thinking if should continue with NCS or apply for public sect. But to take a 500 pay cut is very drastic. Care to PM me ur current salary? We can discuss further.. cause i am also in the same situation as you, only that i have 6 years of IT experience.
