Default A career with MAS or MOF...

how is it? Finance background here.

Attracted to the high pay of banks but also attracted to the stability of MAS or MOF. I could work at MOF or MAS till 60, something I think will be very difficult with banks...

You can't be greedy and want high pay together with iron rice bowl right?!?! Banks pays well but also bear in mind that they will also sack you in a blink of an eye if you screw up or if there are cheaper, better and faster candidates than you.. It's a cruel enviroment where only the fittest shall survive... Civil service is alot more slack... There is no dollars and cents at stake... Most of the time, it's just a lot of wayang and writing paper policies... That's why the salary in there is lot lower....

Default nenient the

actually I am also quite interested to know how the others in the financial sector are doing...

pre 2007 were the good times... banks were constantly hiring. SMU the 3rd uni was just new so uni grads wanting to enter banking were not that much, so it was not very competitive.

now we see retrenchments, NUS+ NTU+ especially SMU have been flooding the market with people wanting to enter banking, resulting in supply more than demand...

the local uni advertising the high pay of their banking grads also helped build the bubble of banking jobs even though these ppl were just the minority...

I am considering MAS, MOF or teaching finance at polys or private institutions when the time comes...

Look at the profile of the top 1000 earners in sg. Most are in finance.
