Like to know that what is the pay range should I expect as no experienced sales engr? I was working as RSAF and wanna to switch line to sales. And because i had a vehicle my friend advise me to work as a sales engineer,he told me his basic is 2.3k and transport allowance $850 he's holdling a nitec cert. how much should i ask for when i go for interview?
Pay wise depend on company. I start up with no experience in sales. only a diploma holder. I ask for more than 2.5k , and i was given the job. It depend on how you perform in the interview. Of course you must show some performance in the first 3 months to justify the pay to you. Transport allowance i am holding only $700.

Sounds reasonable to me. If I'm not wrong fresh diploma grads taking up office jobs are paid somewhere close to 2k with 1-2 months bonus for normal performer.

For sales the basic tend to be lower and commission higher. I doubt there are many companies out there willing to pay diploma holder sales personel that high.

My last sales job, 3 yrs exp, $3k with 700 transport and 150 mobile.
I can even claim entertainment allowance up to $500.
Commission sucks though, 100% hit target, i get $250 flat plus 3% of anything above the 100%.
So far all sales engineer commission are low...the most i gotten are like 2k for 3 months hard work. But that is like once in a blue moon.

Our new sales engineer, is getting a super pay cut from a design engineer 4.3k O&G company to now 2.2k sales engineer, only 600 car allowance, not enuff to pay his car installments. However, he is taking a 9.5% commission on revenue for any O&G equipment that he sells.

Last month he sold about 75k of parts to his friends or rather ex-colleagues... damn he is sneaky

Can I know what sort of O&G equipment does he sell exactly?

I am familiar with the O&G industry and have never heard of a company that offers a basic + 9.5% billing commission. Usually if the rates are so high there out to be a threshold before sharing commences.

Most O&G sales engineers I know of clock up at least 500k annual revenue even if they are new. That means your company is paying like 2200 x 13 + 600 x 12 + 500,000 x 9.5% = at least $83,300 p.a. for a junior sales rep that meets target!

Very interested to know what sort of products you all sell.

Yea dun make sense to me as well. Since this new guy with no sales experience can bill 75k first month, it’s probably consumable products, minor systems or spare parts within the O&G industry.

Even if we assume best case scenario of 25% gross margin, the 75k business has only GP of 18.75k. The Company still have to pay 2.2k basic + 600 allowance + 7.125k for commission + 1.5k employer CPF. That means GP – sales staff only left $9305. No way that is enough to cover all the remaining corporate & admin overheads to be profitable.

Either there is misunderstanding of the commission plan or the above story is bs.

I think he meant above certain target, then the sales guy is entitled to 9.5%. If not, this company will be going bust in no time. Seriously, some guys just like to blow things into perspective that we are being treated like "idiots".

You can imagine, if the overall company is making a loss, how can they afford to pay this guy 9.5%? Does it make any sense???
