Only when you reach the higher levels like principal / partner / MDP. They sell the projects, the working level (me & team) delivers.

It seems like he meant that he moved from consulting into buyside.

Not completely impossible, looking at the pay he was probably from big 4 or accenture. Impressive if he really did transition into buyside. Well done

This is closer to reality actually. Most companies give poor increments yoy.

Getting a pay cut when you switch jobs is pretty dismal though if it's for the same role/industry.

Not the same OP as the one who mentioned buy side. I am the one who went from 7.2 to 12.5k in Yr 5. In a consulting firm (not big 4) and just promoted to post-MBA level after 3 years.

You seem really quick to form judgements and I would like to understand why. A simple check on glassdoor on tier 1/2 strat houses will tell you the pay for pre/post-MBA levels, and a cross-check on LinkedIn will let you know how long it takes to get from pre to post.

Did you move from other houses into tier 1/2? 7.2 and your salary before that seems low for tier 1/2

Sounds about right actually. Tier 1s don't pay that well till you make associate anyway.

He started at 4+, unlikely in tier 2, which often pays better than mbb
Mbb itself would be 6-7 for entry level

Mbb is not 6-7. It's tier 2s that pay 6-7 to attract talent because they have to.

Mbb I would think would be closer to mid 4s about 3-4 years ago when I graduated.
