Will I get blacklisted by the firm if I already signed the letter of appointment but want to rescind with like a valid reason, like pursuing further studies

Rescind is a gilded way of calling what should be morally known as renege. Accepting a job offer and then refusing to turn up for work reflects badly on the consistency of your commitment. While it might not legally have any impact if the contract does not state any form of penalty, it shows how pliant you are in the face of perceivably better opportunities.
When you are given an opportunity, consider it carefully and think about your other options. Request for a timeframe to get back. Accept only when you are sure you want to take it up. Once you take it up, do your best on the role and move on after you have given your best for other opportunities to develop yourself further.
This is professional ethics. Even if the HR or hirer don't mind, does not mean you should do it. Having ethics is to do something right even though it is harder.

Will I be able to terminate the contract without paying now?

Oh boy.. Now I have to find lawyer? Or pay the fine...
I ask my lawyer friend, he told me I should have went there on first day and don't sign the contract but renegotiate for a higher pay... Which the company will refuse. And since I won't sign and they can offer. So it will break the contract without any compensation...
Now who is going to fund my lawyer fee.

So I when I was contacting the HR of the small investment firm that I intend to withdraw from the offer (about 1 month from start of the contract), they told me I needed to pay the firm compensation of 3 months salary in order to compensate them for the time and effort needed to source for another candidate.
When I refused, stating that this was not explicitly stated in the contract, they threatened to use legal debt recovery services to collect the amount as they have my personal information (like bank account, IC scan etc.)
What do I do?
