Hi, I've received an official offer for $7.2k and a 3 month signing bonus. Was wondering if the signing bonus was worth giving up the higher base for (i.e. $7.5k that I initially requested and which they seemed fine with offering w/o a guaranteed bonus). Any opinions?

basic calculation will tell u to go give up the extra 300/mth and go for the upfront 21.6k

For course not, as in a higher base salary is the better option (if you read my question correctly)? Not that obvious to me...some think that a lump sum upfront is more preferable while another might argue one that your base salary forms the basis of future bonuses and increments and the difference can be made up over time.

That's one way of looking at it..but I guess it's how short/ long term view you hold..any difference now could be compounded in the future...but I guess I shouldn't be too hung up on the compounding effect on 300 bucks..

Been engaging directly with the banks hr personnel. Did my research both online such as glass door and offline from peers to gauge asking price.
Current predicament is that my pay is extremely low compared to peers with same job scope which is the reason for hopping.

Indicated for 20% raise to pull my salary to the mean of similar job scope and same lvl experience. Hr came back offer with a ridiculous 6%

Might as well email back and cc the dept head and liaise with him directly

Hello, hoping to get some advice here.

I'm an assistant RM at a private bank. 80k p.a inclusive bonus.
I feel that its a glorified admin role and given the growing importance of risk, controls and compliance in the industry, the KYC/AML stuff is getting on the way of creating opportunities to learn more about markets/products and advising clients.

A headhunter is pitching me a gig at a Jap bank (not nomura) to go into fixed income institutional sales. While I have some interest, do you think it's a bad time to go into fixed income IB given that these units have not been performing well of late and that many banks including bulge brackets have trimmed their FICC desks?

Hello friend. I think it's hard to enter institutional sales. Fixed income sales for corporate is would be higher during bad economy as people seek for safer investments. From my experience, fixed income will always be in demand. Good luck! I would take it compared to retail sales
