And i'm really disturbed that most people here are really more concerned of their pay than forumers giving them philosophy talks about ideals of public service. Though the thread is on pay issues, i believe civil servants have an unwritten duty to see what other people says of them. And this is potentially something wrong with the pay system.

But i shall not direct criticism to policies makers. In fact, SAF should get the most flame if any. The organisation which burns money, talk about duty of protecting nation and sacrificing one self, is ironically drawing the highest salary in public service. With no qualms paying a major $8k to do non-existent paper work 'proposal', and organise events like 'family day' for promotions, the same organisation is 'unable' to lower their defence budget, nor reimburse all guys who sacrifice 2 years of their lives doing NS monetary compensation.
Food for thought.

Honestly, do you guys even feel guilty slacking in office all day, or busy doing work that is unnecessary, repeating paper work, and getting above average salaries?

HONESTLY, please look at your family, go to coffeeshop and think about it. Think about it REAL hard.

I don't expect any changes. But public will be contented if we know civil servants are still humans after all instead of money chasers we see all over here.
$3100 is exlucsive of the allowance of $1300 so i'm drawing $4400 in 2008

guys I need some advice.

Received an email from PUB saying that the interview panel found me suitable for the role and now HR needs to send for "management approval" before making an offer.

Of course I have no criminal, medical probs of any sort.
Can I safely assume that I've gotten the job?

please wake up your idea HAHA!
its allowance and not overtime pay. CS dun have overtime pay. but do provide allowance such as hardship allowance for prison officers, ops/risk allowance for investigation officers

Hi everyone. i'm 25 years of age. just finished my exams with UOL, and i'm expecting a 2nd upper class honors in Banking and Finance. I am at the crossroads now, whether to join banking or the civil sector.

For banking, there are many sales positions opened currently, offering a good 2.7K to 3K as basic excluding commission. However, i'm not interested in doing sales. There are also operations positions opened, offering 2.8K-3K, requiring frequent OTs and working 3 saturdays per month. I'm gonna skip the talk on MA programmes and ****, because honestly, they might burn my resume when they see UOL. Nevertheless, does banking provide a better future ? if i take on operations in a bank, and jump every 2-3 years? how does it compare to the option below?

Civil sector, i'm thinking of joining singapore prison service. i go to the gym 3 times a week and fitness is part of my life. I served national service with detention barracks as an MP, not to mention prison service held talks in my camp to poach some of us too. considering i have relevant experience in incarceration, and my ippt after NS has been a consistent silver (yes free $200/year), would it be possible for me to get the position as a Senior Prison Officer? Would it be better than getting a career in the banking world ?

Many people have told me to go into banking, because it has better prospects. how true is this ?

thanks in advance.

You dun want to do any sales in banks, dun want to do any ops BO because of long hours and cannot make it into any management programes. So what is left? Pantry lady?
