Lucky for you that your pay is not high that quitting should not be a difficult decision.

Dont know how old you are, but just be aware that once you are out of the job scene, coming back to work will be very difficult, even though your previous pay is not high.

Also, be very sure your finances are sufficient for the long haul. If you are not that old (<50) make sure that your investments and cash savings can withstand the rapidly changing economic landscape. A good investment today could be worthless tomorrow.

Dont end being a charity case. I already find it difficult to ensure sufficiency in my own retirement, I certainly dont want to have to support others who chose to cop out of the rat race early because of laziness.

I upgraded from a condo to a terrace house in 2006 when the property market was at its lowest point in recent history. I sold it at its peak last year in 2013, made big profit and moved to a new condo. I invested my cash balance and now earning dividends of $80k pa. I am debt free too. Because we are debt free (no more mortgage payments, car loan payments, renovation loan payments, etc), our household expenses is only $90k pa. My wife is still working and earns $120k pa. She is happy with her career.

I am not happy with my work even though I earn $140k pa in salary. I got an offer to work overseas but declined as I don't want my wife the burden of managing our household alone.
I am thinking of retiring from my current job and focus on my investments. With more active investing, I'm confident of making $120k pa. Since we share our household expenses equally, I only need to bear $45k of expenses and I can save and reinvest the surplus.

I think I will send my letter after I get my bonus.

This is true. In my bank, the young bosses in their early 40s already have net worth of more than $10m. Their bungalow alone are worth at least $5m. This is not combined net worth. This is their own net worth. You figure out what is their combined net worth with their spouses (who are also investment bankers).

In this forum, an old engineer likes to brag about his combined net worth of $5m.
LOL !!!! Hilarious !!!!!!!

Semi-D (fully paid) already worth $3.5m.
Semi-Ds are average type of housing for professionals.
CPF combined, maybe $600k.
Balance for investments, $900k.
$900k investments with 4% yield can only give you $36k pa dividends.
If $10m combined net worth (each $5m), then can be considered rich.
You have $5.9m to invest, gives you $236k pa dividends.

What is your net worth?

Why are you laughing at him? It is an achievement for anyone to have this amount, what more for an engineer right?

Many people said engineer pay very low, so I think for him to achieve this amount is commendable.

And the really wealthy people do not laugh at those who have less than them because they are keenly aware where their wealth come from.

Cool

Wow so many rich bankers. Just out of curiosity which districts are these bungalows in? When people tell me bungalow I'm thinking in excess of 15m ?
