My best guess is wait for the end of this circuit breaker -> start of may also coincides with when retention is usually offered in firms. you will only know then.
Medium and small firms will be more sensitive.

My firm announced to senior staffers just before lockdown that no offers for retention will be made this cycle. Next cycle trainees have been told they are welcome to train, but no guarantee of retention due to the current economic situation.

Not a lawyer, but have a role in a related disputes support profession.

We are now seeing many major dispute proceedings being put on hold, as well as a reduction in funding for disputes (.i.e. requests for reduction in fee rates and work scope). So there may be a hit to litigation departments in the short term.

On the plus side, I think there will be a surge in insolvency, contract termination and force majeure/change in law claims and disputes in the coming months. Hopefully this will provide a continued pipeline of litigation work for the legal industry.

Wishing all the associates here the best of luck.

4.35 should be quite safe.

Now nus so slack use CAP to gauge honours like FASS ah?

In my time no such benchmarks. If you're on track for FCH you'll know it. If you don't, then you're probably not it

The previous system used to be the top 5% of the cohort.

The current system is top 10% of the cohort OR 4.5 GPA will secure you first-class. But because the bell curve is so tough in law school, the 90th percentile of the cohort always has a GPA lower than 4.5. Hence what I said about 4.35 being a good gauge, as from my experience most of my friends around that get FCH.

So to summarize (because you clearly don't think before posting, or maybe you're simply incapable of doing so), the way FCH is computed in NUS is functionally EXACTLY the same as it always was because the 4.5 cut-off is always irrelevant because of the strict bell curve. The only difference now is that it's the top 10% instead of 5.

I'm usually more polite, but I really hate when someone posts something stupid and still has the gall to insult the current graduates by saying their faculty is "so slack". So, cheers.
