Might as well say go to restaurant and only pay for the food that the sous chef or CDC.
I can understand if law firms write off trainees' time (as these will probably not constitute a super large portion of the fees), but to have a client bang the table to say that these should not be chargeable is a little off-putting.

This is the only correct answer.
The int firms I worked at all charged trainee's time on the bill. I think only the local firms are afraid of billing trainee's time.
Sometimes client will make a fuss, most times they won't, as long as the overall bill is reasonable.
