Default Duke-NUS question

Hi, I am a Singaporean citizen studying life sciences at NUS and am interested in the Duke-NUS graduate medical school. Do you know if the rumours are true that a certain number of Duke-NUS spots are reserved for foreigners, who will be given citizenships when they graduate? If so, that will be very unfair to Singaporeans, especially males who have done NS for their country!!

I have a copy of the 2009 Duke-NUS Opening Souvenir Booklet, which states that Singaporeans comprise of 53% of the 130 students. But I cannot verify if this 53% already includes the new foreign citizens.

of course it's not true. since when is the government pro-foreigners? whatever they do is for the greater good of singaporeans. singaporeans come first, remember?

the unfortunate fact is that singaporeans aren't interested in such opportunities. they don't like janitorial jobs and they don't like upgrading. i dunno what they want and i dunno what to say.

That's a very high percentage.

I do not know how much you will get paid but I think the challenge is getting a traineeship position in the specialty, especially when you do not know anyone personally in that hospital.

i have a quary here. if some expert or knowledgable person can answer it i would be gratefull to him.
i have recently got offer from one of the hospital from singapore as my college is from the recognised colleges by smc. but they said that they can offer me only junioe level job (not even registar). but surprisingly they are offering me s$8000 per month. from reading posts above i understsnd that if the position is of junior lvel than registar then my salary would have been somewhere around $3500. can someone explain it?
also they have said that i will have to work in wards. i can go to OTs to see the surgeries but can not assist it. is it true? is really that hard and fast? i mean if i have good relation with my colleuges and HOD can they allow me to assist?
also they said that they can not take me as registar as only MRCS holder is eligible for it. is it true?
if i accept the offer i will be moving with my wife. she has basic medical degree which is not from recognised medical college by smc. can she work there as a GP or anything..just because she doesnt have to sit at home doing nothing?
plz plz advise me about these things. i need to reply to their offer soon.
thanks in advance.
Wow so foreign trained docs are paid 8k to do MO job! The government is really treating local doctors like **** because they know most cannot afford to break the bond...and most are still struggling to pay back their tuition fee loan... 5yrs med sch... Despite 'heavy government subsidy' still have to pay ~20k per year...What a joke!

I'm a New Zealand doctor and was offered an MO job - only $3600pm though, so don't worry, from what they (the MOHH) told me it was the same for Singaporean and foreign doctors. I don't think Singaporeans should be too worried about a few foreign doctors though, many doctors travel to work overseas, in NZ around 40% of our doctors are foreign trained.

Does anyone know the pay of a dentist working in a private vs public sector? I am interested to work as a public dentist but afraid that the pay will not be good enough to pay off the high school fees for overseas dental school.
thanks to anyone who can help out!
