Career Paths Advice

Good Day All!

I'm a fresh graduate and could like to seek your advice on career paths. Technically, i am someone who like to deal with hardware IT related stuffs. I have done a couple of research on the internet and noticed that most of the graduates from local university studying IT did not apply for jobs like Desktop Support / System Engineer / Network Engineer / Security Engineer roles.

I did not enter any university for now as i'm trying to build up my working experience. My gpa is able to get into local university but i don't have the motivation to study right now. Even if i chose to enter local uni, my interest is not there. As university emphasis more on programming which i don't know why.

Could someone please provide a good explanation for this? All these roles stated is for those diploma holders only? It is depressing to see this...

there are tons of indians available to take on those roles u've mentioned.

Most of the IT jobs you mention even poly diploma holders try to avoid. Companies are now offshoring them to places like India & Philippines where manpower is much cheaper.

It's time to face reality. You want to play play in this kind of IT things go do it during your free time as a hobby, but to do it as main career might as well jump bedok reservoir.

General IT jobs in Singapore like hardware support, helpdesk, network infrastucture maintainance, audit etc. are mostly dead or waiting to be offshored.

From what I see locals who make it doing IT mostly either branch out to deep specialism or enterprise leve project management. I chose the 2nd path and see successful peers mostly follow either one of them.

Those who were stubborn and refused to accept reality continued down their usual pattern of upgrading by getting whatever is the most fashionable cert all either lost their jobs and start from zero to another industry or career hantataki at a junior level.

Need some career advice as well as well. I am an NTU grad - Mechanical engineering, 6 years experience in the construction(design, Proj management) with consultant firms, engineering companies. Former thinking was to try getting PE then go developer company.
Recently got an offer to join BCA with 25% salary package increment. But hear that only do paper work there only. Not sure on career path now.

BCA Green Mark department?
I have close to 5.5yrs of working experience.
Will be leaving developer to join facility management firm soon.

I heard that 50% of the time will be writing reports and paperwork. A different skill set will be acquired.

Any idea how much does BCA pays? 8 years building/civil work experience. With NS.
