CPF is capped for basic salary once you high 6k and above. Only Bonus is not cap so there is no such thing as Higher employer CPF contributionbs lol

Somewhat wrong and right

Ordinary wages is up to 6k per month cap.
So if you earn 7k. First 6k attracts cpf. Last 1k free to take home.

Maximum CPF ceiling per year is 102k however.
Why is this so? Cpf allows 30k of additional wages. Coz cpf thinks you have five month of bonus (102k=5months of 6k+12mth of 6k)

Case study 1: 102k evenly divided into 8.5k salary per month, no bonus. Take home pay 7300. CPF employee 1200. CPF employer 1020.
Annual take home pay : 87600
CPF employee: 14400
CPF employer: 12240
Total: 114240

Case study 2: 102k evenly divided into 6k salary per month, with 5 month bonus. Take home pay 4.8k per month. CPF employee 1200. CPF employer 1020.

Annual take home pay : 57600
CPF employee: 14400
CPF employer: 12240
Additional wages take home: 24000
Additional wages cpf employee: 6000
Additional wages cpf employer: 5100
Total: 119340

So you can see the additional 5.1k of employer contribution.
Some say cpf is good as it reduce your taxes, in case 2, your taxable income is reduced by 6k as it is squirrelled into CPF.

Yes in general SMU pay is higher for admin staff than NUS/NTU and indeed Pre-Covid , a B performer would get 2+ months for PB on top of the standard 13th month which is I think unique to SMU (not sure if NUS changed recently?). Add the super generous flexben , it's a very good offer.

However you do have the factor in the more expensive food in city area.

Also I think SMU PB is more equitable, so typically you rarely gets over 2.5 months even if you are the very top performer and the range between the lower band and upper band is not huge

Not so in NUS and NTU, where those assessed highly can get much higher PB (i've heard of as much as 6 months, while others get 0.5 or nothing). so it pays to be a top performer in NUS though in my experience those are often just good at playing politics and/or are management pets.

I think SMU also has more leave benefits (great if you have 2+ kids), and the longer you work annual leave increases quicker than NUS/NTU, I think 3 years of service gets you 21+2 and it further rises to maximum of 28 days.

Still if you want the highest pay for Uni admin? Try Yale-NUS. You might think Yale-NUS is basically NUS (and indeed NUS foots the bill, Yale just lends the brand), but they have their own HR, own IT/Library etc and they pay a ton more.

The Yale-NUS admin staff are paid almost one grade above what their peers in SMU are getting. So a typical SMU/NTU/NUS "senior manager" would be earning about the same as a typical Yale-NUS "manager" (which is one step down).

Still they have only a few staff (a lot of things they still ride on the basic infra of NUS) so it's hard to get in, and you have to be a certain "type" to get your foot in the door.

Read : "Ang moh" accent speaking type, and their staff are mostly foreigners or Singaporeans who can mimick that style.

This is very different from NUS admin staff, who are either chinese speaking (depending on depts) or Singlish speaking/typical local Singaporean accented graduates.

I got an offer to join one of the research institute in NUS as an administrator. I have worked in NUS before as a research staff many years ago but I was never on their executive track. Any idea how's the bonus payment and increment recently? The HR has not gotten in touch with me yet but I would like to get a feel on the current employment package. I read on glassdoor that it is possible to not get any bonus if you have met expectations for your appraisal.

Increment is $100+ and bonus is 1.X. There is a small portion of people who will not get bonus for meeting expectations.

We dont go by A and B though. Its meet expectations, exceeding expectations etc.
And majority would fall under the meet expectations category through bell curve.

The universities are not for profit, so you cant expect high increments or bonus. But it is compensated by work-life balance and a slower-pace working environment. So if you are planning to settle down and retire, this is a perfect place for you.

If you are looking for career progression, probably this is not suitable for you.

Hi, thank you for the reply. Sorry my bad, what I mean was meeting expectation is about 2.5 to 3 months and exceeding expectations can be 3 to 4 months, I got confused with my current company's grading system. But it does not match up with what you have mentioned about 1.x months for meeting expectations, so I'm not sure is it the bonuses as mentioned by the hiring manager is too good to be true.
