2. Are you with DSTA since you fresh grad from university or otherwise jump ship from other company?
3. Are you male with NS or female?
4. Are you 2nd lower/upper/ or 1st class?
5. Do you mean if I jump ship to DSTA with 3.5 years of GLC exp, 2nd lower with NS, I can negotiate for my pay close to $4500?

Because you just stated:
~4500 monthly
16 months yearly

I suppose you mean you are getting this amt, but I am asking how much should I ask for if I jump ship to DSTA with 3.5 years of GLC exp, 2nd lower with NS, can I negotiate for my pay close to $4500?

I meant with your profile, you will most likely get that. So, ask for that. It's a negotiation after all.

Appointment of snr engr.
Try going with a range, maybe 4500 - 4900 p.m.
Basic + PB + AWS + Misc. should total about 16 months annually.

All the best.

Thanks for that info,

by the way, are you also from DSTA or ex-DSTA staff? Because you know quite an amount of info. Or are you HR from DSTA?

Hi, I've just completed my PhD recently. Right now I'm contemplating on staying in the academia as a research postdoc or to move into civil service which ensures better job stability (hopefully!).

May I know what's the expected salary range in civil service for a person with a PhD, 1st class hons degree from local university, and a university scholar? Ideally I would prefer to stay in academia, but it will be a path filled with uncertainties (where research is concerned). Moreover it's getting increasingly difficult to secure an academic position in Singapore. Would it be as tough to climb up the corporate ladder in civil service?

Any info or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Default Private to Civil Service Wage Comparision

Hi I've been following this thread for a while. Been in the private sector. I'm wondering what chances I have in civil service in the Comms Dept. I have a wealth of working experience, unfortunately my education is progressing slowly and am only graduating my Degree in early 2012.

Mid 30s/female
Diploma Holder/Currently doing Degree in Communication & Media

7 yrs sales and events (education industry)
3 yrs multimedia/broadcast experience
2 yrs communications (ngo industry)

My highest take home is 3.8k p/m. Unfortunately Without a Degree I m not eligible to apply at management level, despite my experience (or maybe I could?). My current job use govn't assessment guideline and I was graded A during my last performance review.

How much should I expect for wage if I apply for Comms Exec with Stat Board or Ministry?

Any views?

How do you negotiate pay in the civil service? I thought it's fixed.

it is only fixed for fresh graduates.

mid career entrants with relevant work experience will be given increment.

ie, salary for each civil service rank has a range. the negotiation for mid-career entrants is to determine which rank you will get upon entry. fresh grads start at MX13, and pay is fixed based on degree class.

Didn't someone said almost everyone is an asst director these days? Titles don't count much. It's the money that matters!
