fking talk c*ck. obviously if you're not in the CS right now you shld just stfu.

MX13 holders are around the 50k/annum range. pretty much standard whether its ministry or stat board.

Promotions are dreadfully slow if you're non-scholar. the upside is that yearly increments are guaranteed in govt sector and the annual package and bonuses are more attractive than pte sector (barring the outrageous IB and some mid-office bank jobs which not everyone gets to join *and stay* for long btw). My own take on it is that the govt does this in order to retain talent within the CS. Salaries are generally on par or lower than outside but its compensated through the annual package which is quite generous. On per annum basis the overall pay for CS might actually be higher than pte sector for an equivalent job outside.

On the whole if you're somebody who is ok with average salaries (not rich not poor, stay in hdb or maybe upgrade to a condo and drive a jap/korean car) then you'll more or less be contented with it. Have to say the environment is not suited for everybody. Guys who served ns will be familiar with the very hierarchical style of the CS and very protocol/guidelines/paperwork kind of working style. And if you're a hot blooded young male chasing after young skirts well er... you know la. Lol. There's many fish in the sea but there's perhaps less fish here. Still have but less lah. And they don't really bother dressing up for work. I mean come on.. coming to work in t-shirt and jeans with flipflops? seriously? But of course depends on which agency you're with.

And to answer the other question, 4.5-5k/mth for 5years govt experience is pretty standard.

Hi all I entered CS as a diploma holder, did part time studies and upon graduation, pay was 3k plus... after 5yrs of work experience, pay -> 3311

Applied for another executive post with another ministry, 27yo female, BA deg, 5 yrs of related experience and I asked for 3.5k.

And HR gave me 3.5k, was wondering if I should have asked for more or this is the amt I deserve, can any kind souls enlighten me?

Once you quoted a price, you can't really retract it. Imagine some merchant sell you an item $10, you accepted it. Do you think you as consumer allow that to happen?

If you "regretted" quote too low, the only way out is to bail out e.g. accepted other job offer etc. But do consider the overall situation and package, if this job is really what you like to do , future career progression etc.

How does cep work? If DDs and Ds are already in position to choose, then how is it different from regular promotions? They want to promote you, they riase your cep. They dont like you they lower your cep. And new D or DD come they just revamp your cep. I thought the distinguishing thing about govt was that CEP is like from the start they gauge you based on a govt standard...scholar, non scholar, first class, harvard...and then thats the overarching deteminant of your career?

what are you talking about?

What is the meaning of:

1) "If DDs and Ds are already in position to choose, then how is it different from regular promotions" ?

2) "And new D or DD come they just revamp your cep" ?

Could any kind soul give me advise on how I can seek to enter the civil sector as a fresh grad, other than careers@gov or connections? I see on careers@gov that most of the listings do require 2-3 years of experience, at least. Is there another way that I'm not aware of? Local uni grad, 2nd lower here btw. Thank you

hey there,
govt jobs have to be applied through careers@gov which also link to their websites if otherwise.
Although most required experiences, go ahead and apply if you think you fit the remaining criterias or you're keen for the jobscope (e.g. senior executives positions if you're a degree holder)..No harm trying for those that state 1-2 years experiences. Also, some do state "Fresh grads are welcomed to apply" when you click in.
