With recruiters, the simplest thing to do is just ask around, especially anyone who has moved laterally. Chances are they'll be able to share with you their recruiter and/or tell you who to avoid. And of course, take everything they say with a pinch of salt. Go do your own research on the firm and ask around about the firm/team. I've used recruiters twice now (two different recruiters) for two roles and have been relatively pleased with their service. I think most lawyers would agree that we don't have the time to monitor new roles coming up and once they have your CV, it is much easier for you to just say "yes" when they present you with the role and for them to handle all the admin relating to the application.

That being said, there are some recruiters to avoid. The long list posted by another user earlier today definitely contains some names that are notorious for farming out CVs and generally poor behaviour.

Please avoid, they have been trying to fill the role for 9 mths+ and have not gound anyone. They ask for new grads but expect them to know everything at the start..... aka forced cheap labour

Just because some people have given bad reviews doesn't mean a recruiter is generally bad. And thinking recruiters all suck at their job is going to cost you in the future, assuming you are even worth being headhunted. Most, if not all of my friends who were placed in MC/WS firms from local B4 went through a recruiter. You have to understand how their job works (esp how they are paid) to make sure their interests are aligned with yours. Insofar as that is true, you can trust them.

I get the feeling that the people on this forum who have been ghosted just have a CMI CV or suck at their job and they couldn't be placed for that reason. Recruiters can't work magic.

i am not a colleague or friend of paulin's, but i would say she's generally ok, quite honest to deal with. like she never wayang too much and the roles she show me are suitable for my level of exp. compared to a lot of the other recruiters on that epic list, she's not bad alr.

ya have to agree this dhavi doshi damn irritating.

lol u see some of the angmoh recruiters qualifications for yourself, dunno what donkey backside village they come from, suddenly pwoaaar come out jin zai legal recruiter all pls la. they only have a foot in the door because intl firm HR usually angmo like to jiak with them.
