Default Dealing with interns

Basically, my company got in some poly interns recently, and there's this one who's in the same team as me, I think maybe because it's his first time in a company environment (haven't even gone NS yet), he seems to be very kan chiong and scared, and keep chasing me to pass him the work (I've to pass him stuff on my side so he can use the info and continue on his side).

It's a very very minor assignment of low importance and his superior (the guy in charge of him) isn't even chasing me, how can he!

I believe he behave like this as he's scared his superior will come and chase him for the work which he can't do until I pass him my part, but then, the part I'm doing cannot be rushed.....I've my own schedule for it and things are well under control, but he's just very kan chiong. NB.

Another thing is that he seems very unaware of the norms of office working etiquette and unspoken rules, but can't blame him as he's still considered a true student.

Have anyone of you encountered something like this or similar?

Do I, as an employee (not his direct superior), have the right to tell him off if he still so kan chiong and chase me for my work? (ie: he wasn't hostile or anything, just that he keep asking me if the thing is done, like first thing in the morning when I just step into office and not even put down my bag )

Feel like kan-ning the crap out of this kan chiong kia.

I think you are the one that lacks office working etiquette.

you are not his supervisor, you don't go around kan-ing other ppl's intern. Not only are you going to make the intern feel terrible, you will make it look bad for his supervisor. ultimately, it reflects very badly on you.

the right thing to do is to talk to his supervisor and ask him to talk to the intern.

maybe you're right; the kanning is just part of my fantasy although i really feel like doing it soon.
though i'm not his direct supervisor, he's still in the same team as me and i'm still considered his senior in a sense.

i thought interns from poly are supposed to be all very slack and laidback with devil may care attitude, so i was kinda shocked when i see this guy so kan-chiong.

Kan-chiong is good. A headstart to a good working attitude. Just needs to learn social etiquette, that's all, as you say.

Lucky you never get one kind of poly intern that I got in my company... pass him some work to do, after that he can disappear for long lunch break. Ask him... he say he already finished the work, can go home or not? %$%%^&%#**!! Check his work quality, not even properly done!

Back to your issue, just take time to have a chat with this intern and find out his concerns lah. At the same time, communicate your views. Good to make more friends and contacts. He may be your link to a better job next time in another company.

Headstart to a good working attitude? Doubt so. This type will end up as the traditional "work-longer-hours-faster-and-faster-and-end-up-more-and-more-workload-from-boss-until-in-the-end-cannot-cope-have-to-resign-type".
I would love to have your type of intern here, would be great if we can swap.
Btw, just curious, but poly interns (2 & 3rd year ones), how deep is their understanding of the discipline they're in? ie: if they study finance, how well are they able to contribute to the company, or are they usually given admin-related work to do?

I used to have a friend who says the poly interns CMI in terms of understanding in their major. ie: ask him to do simple coding for software program but not up to standard in the end the friend has to re-do everything himself.

its sad that you have such work ethic. you are the type that will eventually get replaced or remain stagnant in your career and spend most of your time complaining why you r retrenched/low pay/no promotion.

not sure which school, but some school requires the student to write report and show proof of work done. which could affect the grades.
