6-8 rounds of interview for management associate or junior staff is a joke.
the most prestigious graduate MBA programs out there in Unilever, Shell, Microsoft, P&G, Exxon, JP Morgan or even administrative officer program in civil service just have 1 day assessment cetnre and maybe another 3-4 rounds of structured interviews.
normal banks need 8 rounds over 1 year just to get a VP or management associate is just inefficiency and lousy control from their hr side.
hsbc has ~25,000 vp world wide, i hope they are all not taking 8 interviews to hire...

processing time for VP in banks
Why single out a single bank? I went to SCB for a tech position (VP). After 6 rounds in 8 months, I was told that the position was put on hold. At Barclays, they went silent after 10 months and 12 rounds. I never know what happened. Just who bears the cost of these wasteful exercises? At credit suisse, well, another storey...

sorry to hear this. totally waste of time. for the hr, they are paid to do this so no loss to them.
if u r from ivy league, the hiring process can be completed in a month or two.

Honestly speaking, i work in the banking sector and i've never heard of interviews going beyond 4 rounds besides MA programs, and maybe some FO roles.
Im guessing you went through recruiters who are usually not transparent with candidates
on the hiring firm's status, process etc. For eg. the role may be tentative and no candidate was hired after all.

Banks are hire & fire culture and it is well known they treat people especially those lower levels like thrash.
For those applying for jobs like SVP & below my advice is just go there and do the rounds if you are free, but don't put too much hope and faith in the recruitment process. Even if you interviewers have titles that sound dam big like MD, CEO etc. most likely they are just middle management and need to get clearance from many rounds on top before things will happen.

i use to think MDs are only for the top few most high rank position in banking until i go dbs and the old birds there tell me there are 400+ MDs in dbs alone.

My friend tells me that there are more than 200 directors in Credit Swiss in Singapore alone. For a company with less than 3000 employees in Singapore, either Director is a very junior position, or most of these directors have staff outside Singapore.

if u can compare rank & pay for banks with other big companies, bank titles are much more inflated and compare roughly like this:
for banks using "president" system
AVP = Associate / Specialist
VP = Senior Associate / Assistant Manager / Senior Analyst
SVP = Manager
Director = Senior Manager
MD = Director / Department Head
Country MD / Subsidiary CEO = General Manager
for banks using "director" system
AD = Associate / Executive / Specialist
Director = Senior Associate / Assistant Manager / Senior Analyst
Senior Director = Manager
VP = Senior Manager
VP / SVP = General Manager
