22 weeks maternity leave is HR policy for Barclays. They cannot show you the door nor will your post be gone. Your job will probably be filled by someone temporarily till you return.

Sound like Barclay offer good benefits, work-life, and good remuneration. Any cons?

Your job can be sent to India anytime, and you will be without job thereafter.
You don't work for Barclays at all. You work for your boss - many of them are slavedriver FT - Barclays only gives you offer letters. Harsh reality.

22 weeks maternity is true and good, but it does not mean Barcap/Barclays advocate work life balance. In fact the work life culture is quite bad. No one dares to leave early as the boss will feel that he/she is very free and need to be loaded with more work. (In general at least).

Official working hour are 9am - 5 pm. No one dares to leave at 5pm (unless you have tendered). Typically people leave at 8pm when low peak and leave at 11 at peak periods.

Not true lah, I worked there before (at Atrium), many came between 9.30-10.00, took long lunch breaks (>1.5hr) and went home at 5pm sharp, some even promoted to AD (VP).

There will be exceptions in everything. The case or cases you spoke of would be very rare but of course possible. What I was stating is the norm or in general.

Just come across today's (21 Jan 13) Straits Time (Money Page). Selective hiring in banking sector. IB jobs have all but almost dried up. IT jobs massively outsourced to India and Philippine to cut costs. Slightly more opportunities in doing risk compliance in certain niche sectors - and it's not transferable e.g. IB compliance can't do private wealth compliance etc

Is Barclay bucking the trend in IT hiring?

"Barclay", yes.
"Barclays", no. They have been and still are moving jobs to low-cost countries.

If you are bloody hot chick I'm sure Barclays will fit you in.

Work at MBFC Tower 2 and 95% of all chicks in the building are working at Barclays.

Hell... I see one new face every 2 weeks and its all Barclays.

Not that I'm complaining...
