For a mid-career switcher drawing 8k with 10 years of tertiary teaching and 10 years of non-teaching experience, what would be a likely starting salary?
In a 2007, it was announced that "the Ministry of Education will enhance the salary and promotion prospects of mid-career teachers from Jan 2008. The enhancements will ensure that their contributions are recognised, in line with those of their peers who joined the teaching profession as their first career. The pay and progression of new mid-career teachers will be adjusted such that they will be able to catch up with their peers by their 4th year as a trained teacher. This is considerably faster than is currently the case. This will be done through higher starting salaries, faster promotions and additional salary increments upon promotion." May I know if this policy is still in place? If so, does "catching up by their 4th year" means after 3 years of trained teacher service or after 4 years of trained teacher service?
May I know the average GEO grade and pay of a non-key personnel teacher who joined MOE straight after university graduation and stays for 20 years?
Thank you to anyone who can provide some insights from your knowledge!

If you are ok with starting out at the bottom as a mid career, go for it. Do bear in mind that in MOE, is is very very hierarchical. So you may have to swallow your pride for certain things.

to be fair, many young officers went on this route...end up getting burnt out and resigned
otherwise, they tried voicing out...end up got blacklisted and resigned

Aiyoh, where got necessary one? Buy food for form class out of your own pocket... wah, like that how to tahan? 😤 Some more, like bribing them sia – give them snacks, of course they happy lah, especially all the junk food since canteen food all so healthy one. 🙄
Just because other EOs do doesn’t mean you also must lah. Don’t let people pressure you like that. Ridiculous sia. Ya lor, that’s the sad part – if give food, the kids sure will love you one 🍕🍟, but wah lau, like that also a bit unethical, right? It’s like buying their affection. Some more, they’ll expect more and more. 😩 If every time need to feed them snacks to earn respect, then jialat already. Not say cannot connect with them, but must use food meh? Siao liao if this becomes the new standard.

Anyone has rejected an offer from MOE before and successfully reapplied again? This can be due to either offered salary or other reasons.

Because the bar is now high. Every teacher has that mentality that they need to over deliver, failing which it is considered as not doing enough. Typically, we have at the back of our heads where each EO stands relative to one another. But sometimes the difference is not much so there is a tendency to magnify any holes in the EO's game, just to justify an average grade.
I do notice sometimes that some MMs practise favoritism. But by and large this is uncommon.
Anyways please do not make it your life mission to get good grades. Focus on your bread and butter first and understand rankings are relative. A C grade is not average, it is GOOD.
If you are so concerned with money, go and teach tuition on the sidelines. It is a guranteed way to earn extra money.

Hi, I’m a mid career teacher with 18 years experience in MNC. Salary for untrained teacher will not exceed $5000. With your experience, upon completing PGDE, you will likely be promoted to GEO3, salary range $3900-$6250, so you may get around $5500.
Subsequently, how fast you move up the salary scale will depend on your performance. The year you complete PGDE and start being a trained teacher is considered Year 0. You start your 1st year of service 12 months after completing PGDE.
Teachers who are degree holders and have been teaching for >20 years but are not KPs will likely be GEO5, salary range $5150-$8250.

Anyways to be selected these days is a rarity. They are cutting down on hiring. I would say the quality of fresh hires in recent years high. First class honours graduates and some even dean listers who are not scholars.

So, if I apply in August 2024, I will not be able to apply in the Jan/ March 2025 window until August 2025?

Hierarchy is not a big concern for me. Just wondering what the highest possible starting salary for a mid-career switcher is and whether they still try to align the salary to catch up (by the 4th year as a trained teacher) with that of one having the same performance and whose first job is teaching.
And also wondering for a teacher whose first jog is teaching and performance grade is C, and who has taught for 20 years, what would be the GEO grade and salary?
If anyone has any information, would appreciate your kind sharing.
