Food for Thought...

Sometimes your incoming employers can help to pay your LD...

1 good example...

When I was in one of the QFB, 1 VP was an ex-teacher who broke his bond to join as a PB...All his LD was borne by the QFB on the condition of a 1 year bond with them...

In the end he cleared his bond within 1 year and went on to become a VP in the next 5 years earning 10grand/mth

So ya,nothing is impossible as long as the "elements" are right...

i plan to spend nothing on myself during the first 2-3 years of work. have already started scrimping and saving in college. should be able to muster 200k with some help from my parents, by the 3rd year of bond - just enough to break.
By the 3rd into your bond your CV will not look attractive anymore. A scholar's money making potential declines faster than a pretty girl left on the shelf in her thirties.

I have heard of some success stories, granted not many. This is my best option though. If I have to go down this route, do you have any tips on keeping up my market value or finding opportunities? I plan to network intensely while working off 2-3 years of my bond, through alumni and friends. Hopefully that will land an interview?

Very hard. Just think from employers angle. Why would they want to hire someone in his late twenties when there are tons of relatively cheaper, more energetic fresh grads who don't already have bad habits acquired from working in irrelevant organizations.

That said I do know of someone who managed to join a boutique firm because a friend helped him.

Anyway this is all talk. You have 6 years to look for your dream job. If you can't find any, you'll just have to settle for a middle management role in the irrelevant organization.

I still strongly suggest you go find a great job now and beg borrow sting to break the bond now. Else, be very prepared you will have an unfulfilled dream for the rest of your life. Or settle for a lesser dream like becoming an entrepreneur years down the road. Cheers.

Ah Beng go sell hand phones. Make 5 figures a month (make sure you pay yourslef this base salary through your pte ltd) and SAF will stop calling you back hopefully. But then I heard even Koh boon Hwee got called up despite making big bucks and at a low rank.
