I am in this company for about 3years and for increment the max they will go is only 3%. In this industry, overtime pay is given to contract staffs regardless of how high your salary is so practically most of them work overtime for the money. After 5pm and during weekends, most of them are just lazing around clocking ot pay.

For my case im fortunate enough to still hold a job but i have been searching for a job since early 2017 till now. I apply to jobs every single day and received about 10 interviews. Recently I just went through 2 rounds of interview at a gov company(my dream job to be working in CS), the 2nd round was shortlisted to 4 candidate so my chances of being selected was narrowed to 25%. Few days ago, I received a rejected email from Career@gov and I was feeling so exhausted and defeated... The feeling of getting the job bcus you have done well and not getting it, it just feels horrible..

I am not gonna let this hinder my career path and I am going to take on toastmasters and other relevant courses to further improve my career.. so bros and sis here, dont give up!! Press on! Best of luck!
You are doing very well as you have 10 interview opportunities! At least companies are welling to give you a chance!

For me, at 55+ this year, when apply for jobs, either to MNC, small companies and GOV jobs, there is 0 reply and don't even have any interview at all!

When head hunters or agents call me, first thing they ask is, how old are you? When they know my age, no more hearing from them!

How do you fell if you are me?

I've yet to graduate from university, so please pardon my ignorance.

Assuming the candidate is in good health, why would employers hesitate to hire older workers? I personally feel that their wealth of experience is something that companies would be excited about.

Hahaha. Said no employer ever!

I used naively think the same, until you heard so many 40 year olds retrenched pmets could not returned to the workforce without a significant reduction in salary expectations and undermining their wealth of experiences.

Maybe they assume there will be future health issues soon ? Age discrimination is real. If you are young and single, easier to fight for a job. Look, I didn't say 'easier to land a job' but rather it is easier to fight for a job. For an older worker, no matter how good he is in talking, age is still something employers consider as one of the most impt factors in an employee.

Wealth of experience is over-rated. Some ppl work in a company for 20 years without much exposure, so what is this 20 years spent in that company ?

Most pmet roles available are more junior which can be filled by younger staff, younger staff typically

- Paid lower
- Learn faster
- More aware of IT related issues (Can created Macro's etc)
- Okay to work longer (less commitments)
- Usually more susceptible
- More energy

Additionally if the person is too senior their vies may conflict with the manager, so unless government gives more incentives companies will also hire younger staff.

Unless the PMET comes with the ability to create new sales lines and increase company business via his contacts or is very technical related (i.e Engineering) and little training is required.
