Reference Checks: Does SG HR really check them??

Not OP, but I think he/she might be referring to reference check and/or background check? Since both are usually done together

Would like to ask if most companies will ask for referees? One of the things holding me back from changing jobs is the referee check. I think my performance is decent but I am quiet and introverted and do not keep in contact with ex-bosses and colleagues, hence nobody to ask to be my referee..
